Start the New Year in a New Honda Pilot

The 2023 Honda Pilot going through th desert.

What Did Honda Change for the 2023 Pilot?

The Honda Pilot has stood out among our manufacturer’s lineup and its highly competitive automotive industry class. For the 2023 model year, Honda has made several upgrades and improvements to the three-row platform that will widen the gap between the latest version of the Pilot and the rest of its rivals. The 2023 Honda Pilot is the fourth generation of the SUV Honda has built. It adds a new off-road-ready trim grade, the TrailSport, as well as a more powerful engine and new refined interior appointments. Let’s take a closer look at some of the new SUV’s highlights for 2023.

2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport

If you’re the go-with-the-flow type of traveller, there is no telling where you could end up. The 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport was designed with you in mind. Honda engineers already had a strong platform to start building the TrailSport trim. Some of the off-road-ready features future TrailSport owners can expect to see include:

  • Raised off-road-tuned suspension
  • All-terrain tires
  • Steel skid plate
  • Enhanced all-wheel drive system

“The Honda Pilot has been popular with Canadian families for decades, and this all-new Pilot and Pilot TrailSport have been further refined, offering more space and comfort while substantially increasing their toughness and off-road capabilities,” Steve Hui, Assistant Vice President Honda Canada, said in a press release. “The new Pilot can comfortably take your entire family and their gear on any road trip, whether it’s to the city or on a rugged weekend adventure.”

New Honda Pilot Performance

All five trim grades of the 2023 Pilot (Sport, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, and Black Edition) will use the same powertrain, a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V-6 engine attached to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It will make 285 (+5 hp versus previous models) horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. It will be able to tow at least 1,588 kg in most configurations and up to 2,268 when properly equipped.

Every 2023 Honda Pilot is equipped with the automaker’s second-generation Intelligent Variable Torque Management All-Wheel Drive system. Additionally, all 2023 Pilot models come with selectable driving modes, Sport, Normal, Econ, Snow, and Tow. TrailSport models include Trail and Sand modes.

Additional Interior Space

A lot of three-row SUVs make it difficult for people to access the rear-most seats. The 2023 Honda Pilot solves a lot of these issues. First, the second-row seats can fold forward (even with child car seats in place) to allow for easier entry and egress. Also, Honda engineers have added 16 mm of additional legroom to the third row.

In the second row, there is an additional 60 mm of legroom and the seats can recline up to 10 degrees for a more passenger-friendly experience.
